Karun Chandok to race in GP2

Durango Corse, the Italian team has confirmed Karun Chandok as their second driver for the GP2 series that starts April 17 at Bahrain.

The GP2 series is important because it is the feeder series to F1. This happened after the F3000 series was discontinued a couple of years ago. Bernie Ecclestone, the daddy of F1 and Flavio Briatore, the team principal at RenaultF1 are behind the series.

Commenting on the seat Karun had this to say

Obviously, I was looking to move back to Europe to achieve my ultimate aim, which is Formula One, Not having the budget to do anything over here in 2006, I was forced to go back to Asia but, having won the V6 championship, the next step is GP2. I just needed a year to stabilize things, to get myself back, to get my sponsors back, to rebuild their faith in me, and the V6 series served that purpose very well.

Now India has two drives doing rounds in the European circuits, let’s keep out fingers crossed and hope that Karun makes a good impression.
