Mumbai PoliceMumbai Police: Protecting you from evil online comments one at a time.
One of our uber bloggers, aNTI blogged on Orkut censorhip by the Mumbai Police(1, 2) on his personal blog. Orkut seems to be in hot water again in Mumbai with the Mamus (Cops) over some comments made on one its groups on Mr. Marathi Manus. The issue has even affected the working of the legislative branches.

The introduction of one such community called ‘I hate Shiv Sena’ has been created by Mohit Mishra and it says: “This community is for all those who are sick and tired of Bal Thackeray and his gang called Shiv Sena, who for no good reason is spreading corruption in the country. They are responsible for creating mass riots, innumerable sources of destruction which have resulted in loss of time, money and innocent lives. Their fake communism and baseless chauvinism is a hindrance in the progress of the nation and its youth.”

So Mr. Mishra, most likely an NRI, created a group on Orkut dedicated against Shiv Sena. Of course, this group was designed to gather support against Shiv Sena and all that it stands for. One of the comments made on this group was one expressing disgust at party’s extreme reaction when they shut down a hospital over the death of the leader of the party, after a road accident. Why blame fate, when you can shut down a hospital?

One of the remarks posted on the website also reads: “Forget the anti-Valentines Day crusades of the Sena. The one act that put them in my ‘perpetually burning-like-hell hatred’ list is when they vandalised the Singhania hospital in Thane on account of Anand Dighe’s death!!! Those ba****ds didn’t even care about the patients who were in a delicate state.”

OrkutGood for him freedom of expression and all, right? Nope. Which brings us to our UberDesi tips (free of charge - desi ishtyle) - “When in Mumbai, thou shall bow to the man from Mathoshree (Thackeray’s residence)”. Or you will get get threats of the following nature.

“There is no question of responding to such comments. Balasaheb Thackeray is god to us and we will annihilate anyone who insults him. We will agitate.” - Abhijeet Phanse, president of the Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS), translation: Indian Student Army.

Nice to know Mr. Phanse has his priorities in order. Poverty, crime, corruption, government apathy, lack of educational facilities, all be damned. We shall annihilate (no less), anyone who utters a voice against our beloved leader.

“How can someone write such things on Balasaheb? We have complained to the police and let’s see what action they take. This issue can create a law and order problem in the city,” - Sena Worli shakha pramukh (branch chief) Arvind Bhosle

At this junction excuse me for wondering but what law and order problem is he referring to - besides the ones that his party excells at creating? Someone commenting on a website can create law and order problems in the city of Mumbai? What are the Mamus (cops) doing anyway?

An official from the Cyber crime cell of the Mumbai Police, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “We have already started investigating. This is a very serious and it will be dealt with appropriately. We are also locating the IP address of the person and soon we will get some clues on who has posted these remarks.”

I guess that answers my question. But wait a minnit, what IPs? I thought the cops were only getting a glorified version of the “Report Abuse” link.

From aNTI’s link 2:
But it IS funny. I wish I could see the policemen’s faces when they find that all they have gotten is a glorified version of the “Report Abuse” link.

Anyway its nice to know that the ruling party, students unions and cops in Mumbai have their priorities in order. Protect our beloved leader’s name above all. Bravo!

    1. I love my Mumbai very very much. Unfortunately Mumbai is now a glamorous town and the poor who built Mumbai are now being driven out. We are organizing a protest under the banner of Vidhyarthi Bharti Vidhyarathi Sangathana (organization)and working with the student class. Email me at and all ‘principled’ students are welcome.

    2. Hail to the people of Mumbai, Marathi people and the person that made Orkut(?)
