Update: Sanjaya made it through to the top 11 as predicted. However, he recieved the bottom 3 in votes as not predicted.
This is starting to sound like a broken record: Sanjaya does ok, nothing to write home about but as usual the judges blast his performance and from the voting predictions it looks like he will live to fight another day.
Judging from tonight’s show it looked like the judges went out of their way to bash him. At this stage it looks like the American Idol folks are beginning to panic at the realization that he could very well crash the party by making the top 10. He has a decent voice, and that would be abundantly obvious to the folks who actually watch the show. Instead bloggers and other media people watch the 30 second YouTube clippings where Randy says “No dawg” in 30 different ways or Simon repeating from his list of hyperboles of antonyms for “ghastly” and assume that this kid is as bad as William Hung. He does not have the kind of stage presence American Idol folks like to drool over. He is a lanky, akward kid who sings his heart out, gets blasted and takes it with a silly grin on his face. I think he is actually starting to garner some serious sympathy voting. Until he gets voted out, Sanjaya is going to generate some serious business for Eno (ok, maybe Pepto Bismol).
