For those not familiar with Fantasy Sports Leagues, it is a website (not necessarily the one I linked to) where a bunch of nerdy sports enthusiasts get together and form an online group. I count myself among those and have done Fantasy Football (NFL) for a couple of years now. Each person picks a bunch of players and their performance is constantly evaluated on a game-to-game basis throughout the season. You can add, drop or trade players depending on how they are doing. At the end of the season, the person whose team of players scores the most points on a regular basis is usually the winner. But in some cases, an individual scores more than an entire team on a regular basis and if you are fortunate (or smart) enough, you could end up with one of those players on your team.
Each fantasy league and sport varies depending on the method of madness employed but the basic idea stays the same: you want your players to do well week-in and week-out.
Now fantasy leagues seems to be catching on among cricket fans.
The CSE is a novel concept created by the students of Indian Institue of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and IIT-Roorkee that allows cricket-crazy fans to trade virtual stocks of their favourite players online.
“www.crickstock.com is a virtual stock exchange created on the internet and has been modelled on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE),” said Rahul Roushan, a final year student of the post-graduate programme in management at IIM-A.
