It could be off season, but the Schumacher - Montoya conflict just got funnier.
In case you have not been following the news, long time rivals Schumacher and Montoya have always had things to say about each other using the media. After rumors that Montoya could not maintain his physical fitness and crashing into Kimi in the 2006 USGP, The columbian decided to sign up with Chip-Gnassi’s NASCAR team, this even before McLaren Mercedes had a chance to talk with him.
Since then the battle between Schumacher and Montoya has heated up.
When Schumacher was asked in 2006 at France if he would consider NASCAR, Michael said
Personally I would not do it. What do you do in NASCAR? What is exciting there? I can’t see that, running around on ovals
After back and forth indirect references to each other, some “smart” guy over at an American car “racing” company decided to offer Michael a NASCAR ride. Yes, you read it right, ITV has the entire story.
But the seven-time world champion has now been given an open invitation to take part in a NASCAR test himself by team owner Ray Evernham in a bid to get him to reconsider his views.
Besides, me being a Tifosi, I have always laughed at Montoya, but over the years I grew to appreciate him. This stunt pulled is plain insulting. Would you seriously ask Michael Jordan to come play Junior School Ball?

I’m not sure that is entirely impossible. I’ve heard reports that Schumi wanted to move to the US. If he does, ala Beckham, you never know what could happen.
My dear friend, you need to watch F1 more often. If Schumi did something like that, he can kiss his royalties good bye.
Europeans thought (and still do, rightly so) that Montoya was crazy.
Somewhere, I had a huge argument with an american speed freak about which was faster, F1 or Nascar. And I got conflicting facts. But I do stand by one thing. F1 is much more complicated and much more difficult to master. Having said that, however, someone might argue that the competition and the close contact racing that is Nascar might prove to be a achilles heal for even the best F1 driver. And the argument continues…
I like F1 as much as I dislike Nascar but I’m interested in seeing how it turns out for Montoya.
The argument I normally give people is this
-There are more astronauts than F1 drivers.
But if you wanted details, the speed of an F1 car and a Stock car are similar, personally I have trouble with people bumping each other, it just looks uncivilized. Why not go back to the good old days of the Colosseum?
Also, Ovals can never produce a better race driver or a better race machine as compared to F1.
Most Muscle car fans will talk about horse power and speed (this stems from straight line racing), as important as they are, a car should be able to handle corners and undulations in the track. Another reason Europe loves F1 and hates NASCAR.
The argument will always continue…
And Santosh, Montoya is doing pretty well in NASCAR. Just look him up on google news.

Yup, I’d agree with you. I caught the last 20 odd laps of yesterday’s Daytona 500 at the ESPN Zone here in the city (got in early to watch the All Star game) and the words at the tip of my tongue were - “And there he throws it against the wall on Turn 4″. But know, the boy seems to have reigned in his manic streak for ruining fine machines (if you may call a “stock” car that) and flitted through traffic and finished 18th (and a lap behind though, I think). And I think he started 32 or something. So after the first race, he’s 18th in the standings.
[...] I have to agree with Narain. You can drive around all day and night in a box on four wheels, but it will never be anything close to open wheel racing. I was worried that he was going to pull a Montoya on us, but apparently not. [...]
