LONDON: A 32-year-old Indo-Canadian woman was among 120 animal rights activists who stripped naked in a demonstration in Barcelona to protest against the killing of chinchilla rodents for making fur coats.

Anita Singh, who works for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), said: “I’ll gladly bare my skin if it will help save animals’ skins. With so many fashionable clothing choices, there’s absolutely no excuse to wear fur.” Chinchillas are small rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America and belong to the family chinchillidae. In Chinese, they are called lóng mao, which literally means “dragon-cat”.

Anita, who now resides in London and organizes PETA activites across Europe, is no stranger to nude protests, having been involved in a similar protest at Buckingham Palace.

Animal welfare activists have staged a naked protest against the bearskin hats worn by Buckingham Palace guards.

Peta’s Anita Singh claimed said at the protest: “People wanted to show how passionate they are about this cause. Sometimes drastic things call for drastic measures.
