Not Nostradamus, I speak of Shekhar Kapur.

See the similarities?
Paani is a film about a city of 20 million inhabitants which runs dry of water. The water wars have begun between those that still have water and those that do not. Water has now become a weapon of political, social and economic exploitation.
This is the proposed premise for Shekar Kapur’s upcoming movie, Paani, which he envisoned back in 2005. In a bizzare twist and in a case of real life imitating art, Mumbai (population: 18 million), had its water supply turned off for 24 hours.

Imagine a populace as large with no water
From BBC.com:
Millions of people have been spending a day without water in the western Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay) because of repairs to the existing pipelines.
Authorities gave notice of their decision and asked people to stock up on water ahead of the shutdown.
Mumbai supplies 3,200 million litres of water for 18 million people every day.
I’m thanking my stars this did not happen during my visit last month. Mumbai heat and humidity + no running water = recipe for disaster. Mumbaiites are tough and hopefully this situation will be resolved soon.

Come on Santosh. This regularly happens all over India. Chennai (or as some cute people refer to it) Madras has it’s share of shortages regularly, atleast in many places in the city.
It IS a big deal when you cut off the water supply to Mumbai for 24 hours. There is a reason Chennai water cuts are not reported on BBC.
